An appeal is the legal process used to ask a higher court to review a judgment made in a legal matter from the trial court. Anyone who is a party to a case can file for an appeal.
- In a criminal matter the notice of appeal shall be filed with the clerk of the trial court within 20 days after the entry of judgment and sentence.
- In a civil matter the notice of appeal shall be filed with the clerk of the trial court not later than 30 days after the entry of judgment from which the appeal is taken.
- In a matter involving an arbitration proceeding a notice of appeal shall be filed with the clerk within 20 days after the filing of the award or other final disposition.
